The Beaches of Ocean & Monmouth Counties

a summer guide to jersey shore beachesSummer is just around the corner, and nothing says summer like a day at the beach. In this regard, it’s hard to go wrong along the Jersey Shore’s luminary Atlantic Ocean coastline. The Southern New Jersey coastline boasts an incredible array of beaches and beach towns, ranging from big and boisterous to small and reserved. Perfect for whatever your personal preference may be.

To make planning those weekend excursions on the shore that much easier, we present our Summer Guide to our wonderful beaches in both Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

Ocean County:

Bay Head, NJ

Bay Head offers an absolutely stunning beach and an incredible non-commercial boardwalk. This secluded spot at the northern tip of the Barnaget Peninsula offers a rich history, steeped in Victorian-era architecture and some of the quietest, and most serene beaches found anywhere on the shore.

Local residents and visitors alike come for a quiet respite, be it a day sunbathing on the beach, or boating and fishing in the nearby waters. Few places offer the same quaint, small-town atmosphere.

Nothing beats the peaceful bay and beautiful beaches along both coasts of lovely Lavallette. The community stretches right across the Barnaget Peninsula, offering direct access to both the open Atlantic Ocean and sequestered waters of Barnaget Bay.

The diversity means that the small beach town offers unrivaled options for local and visiting families. A number of tennis courts are artfully positioned along the bayfront coast, while the bay and Atlantic waters are ideal for activities as diverse as crabbing and fishing, or kayaking and surfing.

Point Pleasant Beach, NJ

Point Pleasant Beach is, simply put, an icon of the Jersey Shore. Its renowned Jerkinson’s Boardwalk is everything you’d imagine the Jersey Shore to be: boardwalk, beach, bright lights and vibrant nightlife. You’ll find carnival games, amusement park rides and even an aquarium.

Not exactly a quiet beach town getaway, the well-traveled boardwalk offers visitors a grand selection of restaurants and bars, right on the beach! There’s something here for patrons of all ages.

Monmouth County:

Avon-by-the-Sea, NJ

jersey shore beachesCommonly regarded as the Jersey Shore’s best kept secret, Avon-by-Sea is the classic, Victorian-styled sea shore town. Away from the hustle and bustle of many of the shores more congested locales, Avon is a great place to sit and let the world pass you by. Relax as you watch the gently scenic ocean waves, crash on the beach.

A well-positioned, riverside marine serves as an ideal jumping off point for fishing and boating trips.

Belmar, NJ

Offering a range of water access, Belmar’s position at the mouth of the Shark River grants great access oceans, rivers and lakes! Belmar’s real appeal and claim to fame is the number of world-class festivals the city plays host to.

New Jerseyans flock to Belmar’s shores numerous times each for events as varied as the Jersey Shore Seafood Festival and Sand Castle Competition, or the state’s largest St. Patrick’s Day parade. The small seaside community is equally well-known for its incredible restaurants and kinetic nightlife.

Manasquan, NJ

Nationally renowned as premier surfing destination, Manasquan’s fantastic position at the mouth of the river of the same name has helped to create some epic waves just waiting to be experienced. This position has also made it a popular location a whole host of other water sport events.

Plus, the Fisherman’s Cove Conservation Area, found mere minutes inland from the coast along the Manasquan River, is a popular jumping off point for boaters and fisherman. The conservation area is also prized for its picturesque hiking trails and Dog Beach Park.
