A long-time favorite for the wealthy and influential of some of America’s largest east coast cities, such as New York and Philadelphia, Spring Lake, NJ continues this proud tradition to this day. Merely one hour’s drive from those two prominent metropolises, the beaches of this exclusive community continue to enthrall the country’s elite.
Spring Lake was formed as a borough in 1892 from the eastern portions of neighboring Wall Township. Soon after with the construction of a number of beautiful and luxurious beachfront hotels, a new resort mecca was born! Crowds continue to flock to the classy non-commercial boardwalk, the only one of its kind along the community’s 2-mile Atlantic coastline. The incredible array of classy and fashionable boutique shops, and attractive restaurant patios keep families coming back year after year.
Historic Victorian-Age Style
For year-round residents, the small oceanfront community is renowned for its enclave of classically styled Victorian estate homes. The sprawling homes offer incredible amenities inside and fantastic wrap-around patios and balconies allowing stunning views of the singular Jersey Shore coastline.
Despite the exclusive nature of the beautiful Spring Lake real estate, the small town of less than 3000 manages to maintain an extremely attractive, family-friendly small community atmosphere. It’s this relaxed atmosphere that keeps residents here and attracts visitors back again and again.
The locally described “jewel of the Jersey Shore” and pride of Monmouth County gained its name from the centrally located Spring Lake. The aptly named lake earned its title from the underground spring that sources its water. In addition to Spring Lake at its center, residents also enjoy access to picturesque Lake Como to the north and Wreck Pond to South. Combined with the ocean, the Spring Lake homes for sale are virtually surrounded by a wealth of serene waterfront! The town is also bookended to the north and south by the communities of Sea Girt and Belmar, two charming Jersey Shore hot spots!
A Longtime "Jewel of the Jersey Shore"!
A grand number of historic inns line the oceanfront neighborhoods, all constructed between 1870 and 1888. Perhaps the most celebrated and well-known is the Breaker Hotel, the only resort in Spring Lake that lies directly on the beach, its patios boasting breathtaking views mere steps away from the pristine white sand. The hotel was constructed in the late 1800s as the Wilburton; the name was changed shortly after the turn of the twentieth century to its now iconic moniker.
The hotels aren’t the only proud Jersey Shore institutions still making their mark. Founded in 1898, the private Spring Lake Bath and Tennis Club has stood the test of time and offers members a sparkling Olympic-sized swimming pool and well-maintained Har-Tru tennis courts. It’s iconic and well-known on the shore, with an inestimable reputation. The clubhouse and ballroom are popular venues for special events and wedding receptions!
With its exclusive mix of small-town sensibilities and a breathtaking natural setting, it’s clear why Spring Lake has been dubbed “the jewel of the Jersey Shore”. Its array of classic Victorian-style homes create a lasting appeal with deep-rooted ties to the past. Whether you plan to make a home here or are simply in town for the weekend, this sparkling gem is sure to have a lasting impact.
