Read on and find out the five most heavily taxed cities after the state Department of Community Affairs released the property tax numbers for the county in 2014. It's no surprise those living the good life on the oceanfront deal with higher property taxes.

5. Point Pleasant Beach, $7,979/yr

Popular Point Pleasant Beach comes in at No. 5 as it's a city with many oceanfront properties carrying price tags of more than $1 million, which are upping the average property tax rate.

4. Long Beach Township, $8,812/yr

Long Beach Township is pretty much surrounded by water and it boasts many upscale oceanfront homes, hence the high annual property tax tag.

3. Harvey Cedars, $9,528/yr

Another town with large, amazing, luxury oceanfront homes. Harvey Cedars residents pay nearly $1,000 more per year than those living in Long Beach Township.

2. Bay Head, $12,253/yr

One of the more upscale boroughs in the county, Bay Head residents keep the state's tax coffers filled to the tune of $12,253 every year, even though their annual tax bill is nearly $400 less than it was in 2013.

1. Mantoloking, $14,223/yr

Gorgeous Mantoloking is at the top when it comes to property tax in Ocean County. And the $14,223 residents pay on average is up from the $11,855 they paid in 2012 following the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.

Best of the Rest: Cheapest NJ Land Tax Towns

By way of comparison, the cheapest property taxes in the county were paid by residents living in Manchester. Their average bill was $3,813. Folks in Berkely paid just $3,880. Rounding out the cheapest towns are Seaside Heights ($4,326), South Toms River ($4,373) and Little Egg Harbor ($4,518). The aforementioned towns were in the same order from 2013.

For the state of New Jersey, property taxes were up 2.2% in 2014 from 2013. The average property tax bill was $8,161.
